What about this one?
There is a commercial out that says, “when I say Hillshire, you say MEAT!”
When I say, “Yeshua ha Mashiach, you say Jesus.”
Is He the same person to everyone who says His name? If you get several people from several different religious denominations into the same room and say “Jesus” who do they really mean?
Do you picture a “Malibu Jesus” tall and very thin with bright blue eyes and perfect Van Dyke beard and mustache, flowing blonde hair? (Peter certainly wouldn’t have had to point this guy out in a crowd).
Is He the suffering servant from the Gospel of Mark, giving healing to the sick, bearing burden after burden for mankind?
Is He the social activist of the Greek doctor Luke, who talked openly to women and Gentiles, showing that all people were equal in Him?
Is He the Lion of Judah from Matthew (Matatyahu)? The One who made Torah come alive and easy to be understood by all?
Or is He the One Who showed us the power and mysteries of heaven in the earth, revealing the spiritual part in Yochanan (John)?
Is He the Holy Spirit?
Where is the Father, Creator of the Universe, King of Glory when you say “Jesus?” Is He left out?
Do you think of some strange Being with three heads when you say Jesus?
Depending on WHO you think He is when you say “Jesus” determines what you think He is.
Do you expect Him to be like a spiritual Santa Claus, granting your every wish after just five minutes of prayer? Do you think He will make you rich? Bring you mansions and Bentley’s! (Money comes to me NOW!!!
Who is your Jesus? What is His purpose? What is He doing in your life? Why do you want Him there?
Is He here only to fulfill your wants and desires and needs? Is that His reason for being in your life? (Is he in your heart?)
What do you do with the scripture that says, “we are made in His image, and likeness?”
What do you do with all the scriptures that tell us we are to “worship only YHWH?”
What about the scripture that says “I and my Father are ONE.”
Who is your Jesus? Is He the one in the Bible? Or the one from the Buffet Bible? (You know – you pick and choose certain scriptures to support what you think and believe and leave the rest sitting).
Who is YOUR Jesus? And what do you think He expects of YOU?
I was working on an article about our misconceptions about who Jesus is. Growing up, He was this skinny white guy, looking like He could barely stand up. As I learn about the area where He was from, where He live, worked and died, it occurred to me that these people were not white.
My article pointed out that he was a carpenter who worked with wood. They had to lift wood that was real, not already cut and pressed wood chips like today but sawed off trees. Tables that were heavy. Plus he walked everywhere He went. So He had upper body strength, powerful legs and endurance. His endurance was tested when He was beaten and whipped AND He had to carry His cross which was made of real wood. I’m sure that most of us could not do that today because we are so outta shape.
On top of that, Jesus was a warrior. He said that “If you’ve seen me, you’ve see the Father” That mean that when God came to earth to fight the battles, it was Jesus.
So He wasn’t a skinny white guy.
Nope, He was certainly not. There was a reason that we were told specifically not to make “images” of things in heaven or earth, Exodus 20:1-5. The reason being is that God knows we are tempted to depict Him as we are – not as He Is.
So each dominant group makes their God ‘personal” and separates Him from His creation by making those who don’t look like the depiction think they are “less”
Let all men be liars and let the Word be True!
